A Kīlauea Halema’uma’u diptych from my Mountains Waterfalls Volcanoes Collection.
Volcanoes are a natural process of destruction and rebirth. They remind us that there is beauty and growth in ashes. You never know how strong you really are until you face pressures you’ve never really faced. And even when the pressure feels too great, have faith and just like in nature, a great shift will occur. You will always be able to bear what comes your way.
- UNESCO World Heritage Site
- One of the youngest and most active volcanoes in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
- Kīlauea means “spewing” or “much spreading” in Hawaiian language
- In Hawaiian mythology Kīlauea Halema’uma’u is the body and home of Pele, goddess of fire, lightening, wind, and volcanoes.
- Pele= “She who shapes the sacred land”
- These paintings depict how in 2020 the Kīlauea Volcano erupted in the Halema’uma’u crater. As the west and north vents erupted the lake water in the crater was vaporized and a lava lake was born.
- The Kīlauea volcano resumed erupting in the Halema’uma’u crater in January 2023
